Has anyone lived in Kinkakuji??
Really beautiful, especially when it's sunny. If you're going to Japan I think you have to see it.
MoreThe amulets were like amulets, very special. 鹿苑寺 was a large temple, which was much more exquisite and decorated then shrines, almost reaching the level of the top Japanese garden. 舎利殿 lies at the edge of the pool, shining the sparkling water and vice versa. We stayed there for minutes, enjoyed the 舎利殿 from different perspectives, some of which was like gold while some were like golden sand under intense sunlight. There was a smaller lake uphill, and there’s a teahouse nearby with a great view of the temple downhill. I guess that would be the place the young man witnessed the fire in the famous novel. We bought ice cream at the vending machine near the exit. That’s the first time we bought ice cream in Japan, amazingly.
MoreKinkakuji or also known as the Golden Pavilion, located in kyoto. Also one of the tourist spots that needs to be put on your itenerary 😉Kinkaku-ji (金閣寺, literally "Temple of the Golden Pavilion"), officially named Rokuon-ji (鹿苑寺, literally "Deer Garden Temple"), is a Zen Buddhist temple in Kyoto, Japan. It is one of the most popular buildings in Kyoto, attracting many visitors annually. It is designated as a National Special Historic Site, a National Special Landscape and is one of 17 locations making up the Historic Monuments of Ancient Kyoto which are World Heritage Sites. The Golden Pavilion (金閣, Kinkaku) is a three-story building on the grounds of the Rokuon-ji temple complex. The top two stories of the pavilion are covered with pure gold leaf. (Source: wikipedia)
MoreAbsolutely worth visiting, but it is incredibly crowded during peak times, peak seasons, and holidays (especially New Years).Highly recommend visiting. The parking options are somewhat reasonable, but definitely pricey. The Golden Temple compound has a ¥400 entrance fee. This is a must see if you’re visiting Kyoto.
MoreIt’s a gold plated temple. What else do you want? Normally swarming with Chinese tourists, we were able to enjoy some serenity thanks to the Rona. Thanks Rona!!!
MoreVery crowded but not too crowded, as I was still able to get a good spot to take photos of the temple. Also went at a good time, as the light was shining off the golden exterior. Very pretty.
MoreI would rate it 3.8. The Shrine and its lake there and a few places inside can take some nice photos but because it was closed for repair works and we can't go in. We can only rate the surrounding. Not a wow, but can get a few nice pictures in the area
MoreA beautiful gold plated 'summer house' surrounded by peaceful gardens. There is a short and simple walk that takes visitors around the house and past a series of small stalls selling tourist items, tokens, and traditional foods. Be aware that even when visiting early, before 10:00 on a weekday, the crowds can be heavy. Entrance fee is about 400 yen.
MoreThe beauty of Kyoto . Must visit place . ¥400 for adult entrance . October will be best time . Parking is available for ¥300 for 60 mins or 30 mins ¥150 .
MoreThe Temple and the garden with the lake is really a good sight and we enjoyed it. But that's it. Some souvenirshops and shops with good charms at the end. The entrance fee is with 400 yen a little high for this. If you visit Kyoto this is definitely a spot you have to see, but after one visit I don't have the feeling to come for a second.
MoreKinkaku-ji Golden temple is a very beautiful place, with a serene atmosphere. It is a photographers paradise, with picturesque locations and beautiful structures, it is definitely worth a visit.
MoreSimply amazing and the history is great! Be prepared to fight and or wait for the prime photo spots. Check it out on a sunny day at sunrise or sunset for some great photos! All the gift shops from beginning to end had identical pricing. The largest store at the end had more of a range to souvenirs.
MoreOne of the most famous of the Buddhist temples, which has and equally elaborate and beautiful history. Also famous because of the amazing pictures you can get that all come out spectacular! This shrine/Temple was literally designed and build hundreds of years ago, but it is almost as if they had photography in mind. Must see
MoreA beautiful castle and iconic landmark in Kyoto. You unfortunately can't go near the castle but the area is very serene/peaceful. There's a lot of tourists but you can still get a good view through the crowds.
MoreIn any normal situation I'd give it 5/5 but in the context of Kyoto, I feel that it's overrated. The pavilion most certainly is splendid but the gardens don't size up to a lot of its counterparts.
MoreA worthwhile place to visit. The temple is golden as gold foil is hammered over the structure. A sight to behold in the sunlight.Temple has a lake in front of it with water fowls scouring the water for their meal. A wonderful garden surrounds the area giving a refreshing atmosphere.
MoreStumbled across this place, so happy I went in and had a look around
A scenic location and is surprisingly quiet. The gold colour when reflecting on the lake is breathtaking. There were some people but not as crowded as other temples in Kyoto.
MoreKinkakuji or the Golden Temple (also known as Golden Pavilion) must but the most elegant and beautiful temple in Japan! It has a very simple structure but it is majestic. The temple is very impressive and set on a stunning lake, this golden temple shines. We went in the morning when the sun was shining and the gold really colour really stands out and it reflects on the water. It is rather serene and a peaceful place, but it got very busy with many, many tourists. There is a Japanese Tea Garden where you can enjoy delicious Japanese Green tea as well as a bell tower you can ring for a small donation.
MoreThe golden temple is very unique and the setting in combination with the lake and the beautiful garden around is just wow. But when you stand directly in front of it, you see that it has less details then most other temples. So enjoy from the distance ;-)
MoreA magical place where you can feel immense peace and ancestral history of Japan. The Golden Pavilion surrounded by perfectly maintained gardens is just amazing. You can stare at it for hours and never get bored. Everything is in perfect balance in this place. No matter from which angle you take pictures, all of them will be like postcards. Loved it!
MoreLovely golden temple and serene setting, well maintained area and worth a visit
This place has a different atmosphere, very different from the other hip-hop places in Japan. The shrine is stunning with all that gold leaf plated walls. Nice place with all the people around you. It's very calm and peaceful and a must visit place in Japan.
MoreProbably the most iconic Temple in all of Japan, when we began researching our trip we saw this buildings image countless times so we felt obligated to see it in person, but definitely worth the visit. It is a beautiful golden pavilion surrounded by a gorgeous landscape with mountain backdrops. If you could only visit one temple in Japan this would be the one. The entire area is gorgeous, you couldn’t take a bad picture here if you tried.
MoreA gold-covered temple... you’d think it’s distasteful, overly pretentious, hiphop star blingness that’s less fitting to the aesthetics of buddhism... but they do this well with modesty. When i visited we saw a white snake (note: not the band, obviously) slithering on the surface of the pond, coming toward us.It is said that the snake signifies good luck in buddhism, so that was a nice experience.
MoreSuch a landmark, there is a sense of tranquility yet power due to the gold facade.
MoreBeautiful!! The tour is really short, but it worths it.
One of the great temple in the Kyoto, must go.You will surprise for its beautiful. If you luckily, the wind is still, you can get the perfect reflection of golden temple on the water, that is really amazing photo you can take.Should come here while sakura (Mar -Apr) and red leaf period (Nov - Dec).Recommended for everyone Kyoto destination.
MoreJeez, I feel like the only one who wasn't impressed here. It was super crowded with at least ten classes of students around. There's a very specific path that you have to follow. Yeah the building is cool looking and makes for a nice picture, but you can't go inside and you don't get to do much of anything other than take your picture and continue on down the walkway.
MoreVery beautiful lake with the temple and surrounding trees. The autumn leaves makes the scene even better. Visit it in late morning so that you can get a good photo shots with the sun shining from behind you toward the lake and the temple. You can even see the reflection of the cloud on the lake. Entrance fee is 400yen for adult and 300yen for child.
MoreOne of my favorite temples to visit in Kyoto. It is truly stunningly beautiful, standing proud in the lake. It is only a short walk around the temple but I think it is well worth the entry of ¥400.I hope to be able to come back to see it again.
MoreBeautiful temple with picturesque views even when the weather is poor. This should be high on your Kyoto to-do list. There's a gentle hillside walk up and back down, but it's not suitable for wheelchairs due to steps.
MoreAbsolutely stunning. I went right before tsuyu so it was gloomy, and it was still beautiful.I would say it may be better to go see in the spring.
MoreGreat time visiting this place. Architecture of the temple is amazing.A bit too much people, but it's not touristic for nothing... it's a must see in Japan! You have to take a great camera to be sure to have a unforgettable souvenir ;-)
MoreThis place is a short distance from a nearby bus stop, easy to reach. Free entrance. The star of this place is a pretty golden color temple, which is located on some lake. You can not even go near, can only stare or gaze from certain distance. The area is not big too. I spent only half an hour there, walking n circling the temple.
MoreI visited Kinkakuji Temple on a very wet day so not too many people around. A magical, serene place even in the rain. I was also intrigued by the beautiful miss covered giant tree roots at the entrance. It is a Zen temple in northern Kyoto and the top two floors are completely covered in gold leaf. Formally known as Rokuonji, the temple was the retirement villa of the shogun Ashikaga. The Temple itself sits in a large pond and you can only appreciate it from a distance via a one way only boardwalk. Very beautiful💕
MoreIt's a victim of its own popularity. There's just way too many of us tourists to make it a pleasant experience. Pro tip, go early, or late, when the sun is low on the sky, so that pictures will have a good glimmer. Evening sun reflects of the lake for a nice shimmer as well.
MoreA beautiful place to visit. It is not a big area but very nice. I did enjoy it very much.
MoreMust visit place in Kyoto. It's vet scenic route around the main golden temple. Buses are available to this place from Kyoto station. However you need to walk a bit to get there.
MoreNice place to go and very crowded place. It is an amazing view, but with all the people around you cannot really enjoy as you are pushed through like cattle. But definitely worthwhile to visit. Try to be there early in the morning to get a good chance to experience it in a good way.
MoreI can honestly see why it's so popular, going there and seeing the golden temple with your own two eyes is amazing. You can't fully put it into words how beautiful and we'll maintained the temple is. I would definitely go back to see the temple again even though its full of tourists it's is worth seeing it as many times in your life as I can.
MoreThis temple sits majestically in its beautiful park surroundings. It was breathtaking and an absolute must when in Kyoto. It is very busy and packed with tourists, but everyone is very good at taking their photos and moving on. I got so many stunning photos. The grounds were immaculate and despite all the people it still had a peaceful feeling. Just loved it!
MoreAbsolutely beautiful shrine to visit, definitely a unique site that is different from a lot of the other shrines in this area. I recommend buying a ticket on the Raku Bus which is only 230¥ each way, or you can purchase a Kyoto City bus 1-day ticket which costs 600¥ for unlimited rides on the Raku Buses and Kyoto City buses. This is a much cheaper way to visit the shrine than paying for elan expensive tour! Then you can walk around the temple grounds at your own pace!
MoreBeautiful and mesmerizing. 110% suggestion to be there if you visit Kyoto. Entrance fee is 400 Yen per person. If you staying around Kyoto station , use bus line number 101 or 205 to reach there. Cost of bus is 230 per person.it is a 35-45 minutes ride and then you can enjoy 30min-1 hour walk around this beautiful place. They also have hot green tea and small piece of Japanese sweet in a small cozy place inside tour tour area. They also have booth to write some charm (talisman) for those desperately in need 😜.
MoreBeautiful. I was there at the beginning of February, so the gardens where empty due to lack of flowers but the temple with the nearby lake provided a very satisfying experience, especially when the sun was shining. The area can be covered within 1.5 hour with a very very relaxed tempo.
MoreEverything in Kyoto Japan is flawless and beautiful. This is no different. Beautiful grounds. Amazing history. So much to see!
MorePacked of people when we came, however it was a very nice place. The temple looked surreal, and you can buy some gifts and Souvenirs outside of the temple. Avoid going around midday tho, too many people makes it hard to take some good decent photos. Easy to get here by bus. Very fast services in Kyoto and constant so you don’t have to wait very long. We came in summer and it was really hot. Definitely will return, maybe a different season tho.
MoreOne of the most beautiful place I’ve ever seen. Amazing, incredible, wonderful :) thankful to my life to be a visitor of it 🙏
MoreEmpty and peaceful as it can only be in a time of travel restrictions. No Instagram i☆☆☆ and now massive crowds of tourists. So lovely!!
MoreThis was the absolute best temple we saw in all of Japan. This needs to be on the Uber short list of things to do in Kyoto. Absolutely stunning.
