Kinkaku-ji Temple is famous for its gardens, land pine, and Kinkaku. As for souvenirs, I wonder if “Meika Kinkaku,” which is sold by Senbon Yujuken as a Kinkaku-ji limited confectionery, is unusual.

What is the difference between Kinkakuji and Shikanji?

It is the difference between popular and common names

What is the difference between Kinkakuji and Kinkaku?

Kinkakuji is a general name of the official name Rokuonji, sometimes called Kinkaku. On the other hand, it is a usage that is clearly distinguished from the whole of Kinkakuji, and refers to only the three-tiered treasure-shaped structure with gold leaf in the temple, which is called Kinkaku. If this distinction fails, please point out.

The name is not Kinkakuji, it's Kakanji Kinkaku. I want you to fix it

The amulets were like amulets, very special. 鹿苑寺 was a large temple, which was much more exquisite and decorated then shrines, almost reaching the level of the top Japanese garden. 舎利殿 lies at the edge of the pool, shining the sparkling water and vice versa. We stayed there for minutes, enjoyed the 舎利殿 from different perspectives, some of which was like gold while some were like golden sand under intense sunlight. There was a smaller lake uphill, and there’s a teahouse nearby with a great view of the temple downhill. I guess that would be the place the young man witnessed the fire in the famous novel. We bought ice cream at the vending machine near the exit. That’s the first time we bought ice cream in Japan, amazingly.

Kinkakuji or also known as the Golden Pavilion, located in kyoto. Also one of the tourist spots that needs to be put on your itenerary 😉Kinkaku-ji (金閣寺, literally "Temple of the Golden Pavilion"), officially named Rokuon-ji (鹿苑寺, literally "Deer Garden Temple"), is a Zen Buddhist temple in Kyoto, Japan. It is one of the most popular buildings in Kyoto, attracting many visitors annually. It is designated as a National Special Historic Site, a National Special Landscape and is one of 17 locations making up the Historic Monuments of Ancient Kyoto which are World Heritage Sites. The Golden Pavilion (金閣, Kinkaku) is a three-story building on the grounds of the Rokuon-ji temple complex. The top two stories of the pavilion are covered with pure gold leaf. (Source: wikipedia)

Absolutely worth visiting, but it is incredibly crowded during peak times, peak seasons, and holidays (especially New Years).Highly recommend visiting. The parking options are somewhat reasonable, but definitely pricey. The Golden Temple compound has a ¥400 entrance fee. This is a must see if you’re visiting Kyoto.

It’s a gold plated temple. What else do you want? Normally swarming with Chinese tourists, we were able to enjoy some serenity thanks to the Rona. Thanks Rona!!!

Very crowded but not too crowded, as I was still able to get a good spot to take photos of the temple. Also went at a good time, as the light was shining off the golden exterior. Very pretty.

I would rate it 3.8. The Shrine and its lake there and a few places inside can take some nice photos but because it was closed for repair works and we can't go in. We can only rate the surrounding. Not a wow, but can get a few nice pictures in the area

A beautiful gold plated 'summer house' surrounded by peaceful gardens. There is a short and simple walk that takes visitors around the house and past a series of small stalls selling tourist items, tokens, and traditional foods. Be aware that even when visiting early, before 10:00 on a weekday, the crowds can be heavy. Entrance fee is about 400 yen.

The Temple and the garden with the lake is really a good sight and we enjoyed it. But that's it. Some souvenirshops and shops with good charms at the end. The entrance fee is with 400 yen a little high for this. If you visit Kyoto this is definitely a spot you have to see, but after one visit I don't have the feeling to come for a second.

Simply amazing and the history is great! Be prepared to fight and or wait for the prime photo spots. Check it out on a sunny day at sunrise or sunset for some great photos! All the gift shops from beginning to end had identical pricing. The largest store at the end had more of a range to souvenirs.

One of the most famous of the Buddhist temples, which has and equally elaborate and beautiful history. Also famous because of the amazing pictures you can get that all come out spectacular! This shrine/Temple was literally designed and build hundreds of years ago, but it is almost as if they had photography in mind. Must see

In any normal situation I'd give it 5/5 but in the context of Kyoto, I feel that it's overrated. The pavilion most certainly is splendid but the gardens don't size up to a lot of its counterparts.

A worthwhile place to visit. The temple is golden as gold foil is hammered over the structure. A sight to behold in the sunlight.Temple has a lake in front of it with water fowls scouring the water for their meal. A wonderful garden surrounds the area giving a refreshing atmosphere.

Kinkakuji or the Golden Temple (also known as Golden Pavilion) must but the most elegant and beautiful temple in Japan! It has a very simple structure but it is majestic. The temple is very impressive and set on a stunning lake, this golden temple shines. We went in the morning when the sun was shining and the gold really colour really stands out and it reflects on the water. It is rather serene and a peaceful place, but it got very busy with many, many tourists. There is a Japanese Tea Garden where you can enjoy delicious Japanese Green tea as well as a bell tower you can ring for a small donation.

The golden temple is very unique and the setting in combination with the lake and the beautiful garden around is just wow. But when you stand directly in front of it, you see that it has less details then most other temples. So enjoy from the distance ;-)

Probably the most iconic Temple in all of Japan, when we began researching our trip we saw this buildings image countless times so we felt obligated to see it in person, but definitely worth the visit. It is a beautiful golden pavilion surrounded by a gorgeous landscape with mountain backdrops. If you could only visit one temple in Japan this would be the one. The entire area is gorgeous, you couldn’t take a bad picture here if you tried.

A gold-covered temple... you’d think it’s distasteful, overly pretentious, hiphop star blingness that’s less fitting to the aesthetics of buddhism... but they do this well with modesty. When i visited we saw a white snake (note: not the band, obviously) slithering on the surface of the pond, coming toward us.It is said that the snake signifies good luck in buddhism, so that was a nice experience.

Jeez, I feel like the only one who wasn't impressed here. It was super crowded with at least ten classes of students around. There's a very specific path that you have to follow. Yeah the building is cool looking and makes for a nice picture, but you can't go inside and you don't get to do much of anything other than take your picture and continue on down the walkway.

This place is a short distance from a nearby bus stop, easy to reach. Free entrance. The star of this place is a pretty golden color temple, which is located on some lake. You can not even go near, can only stare or gaze from certain distance. The area is not big too. I spent only half an hour there, walking n circling the temple.

I visited Kinkakuji Temple on a very wet day so not too many people around. A magical, serene place even in the rain. I was also intrigued by the beautiful miss covered giant tree roots at the entrance. It is a Zen temple in northern Kyoto and the top two floors are completely covered in gold leaf. Formally known as Rokuonji, the temple was the retirement villa of the shogun Ashikaga. The Temple itself sits in a large pond and you can only appreciate it from a distance via a one way only boardwalk. Very beautiful💕

It's a victim of its own popularity. There's just way too many of us tourists to make it a pleasant experience. Pro tip, go early, or late, when the sun is low on the sky, so that pictures will have a good glimmer. Evening sun reflects of the lake for a nice shimmer as well.

Absolutely beautiful shrine to visit, definitely a unique site that is different from a lot of the other shrines in this area. I recommend buying a ticket on the Raku Bus which is only 230¥ each way, or you can purchase a Kyoto City bus 1-day ticket which costs 600¥ for unlimited rides on the Raku Buses and Kyoto City buses. This is a much cheaper way to visit the shrine than paying for elan expensive tour! Then you can walk around the temple grounds at your own pace!

Packed of people when we came, however it was a very nice place. The temple looked surreal, and you can buy some gifts and Souvenirs outside of the temple. Avoid going around midday tho, too many people makes it hard to take some good decent photos. Easy to get here by bus. Very fast services in Kyoto and constant so you don’t have to wait very long.
